About Yogyakarta International Airport
Yogyakarta International Airport is the main international airport serving Yogyakarta and the wider Special Region of Yogyakarta. It replaced the older Adisutjipto Airport as the primary gateway for commercial flights and connects the region to domestic destinations across Indonesia as well as international routes to cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Located in Temon, Kulon Progo, around 42 km southwest of central Yogyakarta, the airport began full commercial operations in March 2020. Its single terminal covers approximately 219,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 20 million passengers a year, with a 3,250-metre runway supporting a wide range of aircraft.
The airport is connected to the city by the YIA airport train, buses, taxis, private transfers and road links via National Route 3. The train journey between Yogyakarta Station and the airport takes roughly 35 to 40 minutes, while road travel typically takes around one to one and a half hours depending on traffic.
With restaurants, cafés, shops, lounges, prayer rooms and onward travel facilities, YIA serves as a convenient gateway for visitors heading to Yogyakarta, Malioboro, and the nearby Borobudur and Prambanan temple sites.
