About Waldron Airstrip

Waldron Airstrip (WDN) is a small private-use airstrip on Waldron Island in Washington's San Juan Islands. Carrying FAA identifier 90WA, it serves mainly general aviation and emergency flights rather than scheduled passenger service.

Located about 3 miles west of East Sound on Orcas Island, the airstrip has a single turf runway, 14/32, measuring 2,700 by 300 feet at an elevation of about 140 feet. Waldron Island is remote and off-grid, with no ferry service, no public electricity or water supply, and only one county-owned dock.

Because it is private use, landing permission must be arranged in advance with the owner, Waldron Island Community Services. The airstrip is unattended, has no control tower, and is used primarily for emergencies.

Travelers and residents reach Waldron Island by private boat, water taxi, or private aircraft. Nearby airports with more facilities include Orcas Island Airport, Friday Harbor Airport, and Bellingham International Airport, which offer connections for onward travel in the San Juan Islands and mainland Washington.
