About Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport
Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Blacksburg, Virginia Tech and Montgomery County in southwest Virginia. The site has served the area since the Virginia Tech Airport officially opened in 1931, and the present passenger terminal building was completed in 1995.
Located about three miles south of central Blacksburg and close to the Virginia Tech campus, the airport provides convenient access for business, academic, sports and recreational travel. Christiansburg, the commercial center of the region, lies roughly three miles south, and Interstate 81 is just minutes from the airport.
The airport is managed by the Virginia Tech/Montgomery Regional Airport Authority, with representatives from Virginia Tech, Montgomery County and the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg. A runway extension project completed in 2020 lengthened the main runway to 5,500 feet to support a wider range of general aviation aircraft.
