About Van Nuys Airport
Van Nuys Airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world and a key business aviation gateway for Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. Opened in 1928 as Metropolitan Airport, it was purchased by the City of Los Angeles in 1949 and renamed Van Nuys Airport in 1957; it is now owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports alongside Los Angeles International Airport.
Located roughly 30 km northwest of downtown Los Angeles, the airport focuses on private, corporate, charter, and general aviation rather than scheduled commercial passenger flights.
