About Valdez Pioneer Field
Valdez Pioneer Field is the main commercial airport serving Valdez and the surrounding Prince William Sound area of Alaska. The state-owned public-use airport is located on the north shore of Valdez Arm, about 6 km east of downtown Valdez, and was renamed on May 1, 2000, in honor of Alaska's pioneer aviators.
The airport plays a key role in regional air travel, connecting Valdez to Anchorage and Fairbanks through Essential Air Service flights. Its single 6,500-foot runway can accommodate larger aircraft, and the compact terminal provides ticketing, waiting, baggage claim and parking for travelers.
Access to the airport is available by Airport Road, taxi, local rental car and pre-arranged private transfer, making the short trip into central Valdez quick and convenient.
