The airport was partially inaugurated in 1995, with the main terminal completed in 1997 and later expanded in 2009 to about 9,700 square metres. Its single terminal spans two floors and handles domestic and international flights, including regular services to Buenos Aires and other Argentine cities.

Located about 4–5 km from central Ushuaia, the airport is reached mainly by taxi, shuttle and private transfer, with a short journey to the city centre, hotels and the port. Car rental desks are also available for independent travel in the region.
