About Umiujaq Airport
Umiujaq Airport is a small regional airport serving Umiujaq, an Inuit community on the eastern shore of Hudson Bay in Nunavik, northern Quebec. Opened in 1988, it was built to serve the village established in 1986 by Inuit who relocated from Kuujjuarapik.
The airport has a single gravel runway (02/20) measuring about 1,073 metres and a compact passenger terminal. Air Inuit provides scheduled regional flights linking Umiujaq with nearby Nunavik and Hudson Bay communities such as Kuujjuarapik, Sanikiluaq and Inukjuak, with onward connections to the wider network.
Located about 2.5 km from the village centre, the airport is the community's main year-round transport link, as Umiujaq is not connected to the Quebec road network. Travel between the airport and the village is made by car or taxi.
Although facilities are modest, the airport provides essential passenger services and reliable access for residents and travellers moving between Umiujaq and the rest of Nunavik and Quebec.
