About the Event
The Montreal International Jazz Festival returns in 2027 for its 47th edition, running from June 25 to July 4 across the Quartier des spectacles in downtown Montreal. Organized by a non-profit founded in 1980 by Alain Simard in association with André Ménard, the festival has grown into one of the world's most important summer music events and a major showcase for jazz and related styles.
The program is built around two complementary sides. Nearly 150 indoor concerts present leading and emerging artists in ticketed settings, while the festival's famous outdoor component offers more than 350 free, open-air shows over the ten days. In a typical edition, roughly two-thirds of the programming is free, making the event widely accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Each year the festival brings together around 3,000 musicians and performers from more than 30 countries. In 2004 it entered the Guinness World Records as the largest jazz festival in the world, and past editions have welcomed influential figures such as Ray Charles, Chick Corea and Gary Burton alongside a broad range of contemporary voices.
The outdoor site centres on the Place des Festivals, where large free concerts take place on the main stage, with additional outdoor stages spread throughout the surrounding streets and squares. Indoor performances are held in well-known downtown venues including the Maison symphonique de Montréal, MTELUS and Club Soda, among others.
Attendees include devoted jazz fans, curious music lovers, families and groups from Montreal, the rest of Canada and abroad. Beyond the concerts, visitors can enjoy the open-air festival atmosphere, food and refreshment areas, children's activities and the lively pedestrian zones of the Quartier des spectacles.
The full 2027 lineup will be announced closer to the event, with details on free outdoor shows and ticketed indoor concerts released through the festival's official channels.
