About Ugnu-Kuparuk Airport
Ugnu-Kuparuk Airport is a private-use airport in Kuparuk, Alaska, operated by ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. It supports the Kuparuk River oil field on Alaska's North Slope, one of the largest oil fields in North America, and handles company and charter flights rather than scheduled public airline service.
The airport opened in December 1981 and has a single asphalt runway, 06/24, measuring 6,551 by 150 feet (1,997 by 46 metres). It is located roughly 47 kilometres (29 miles) northwest of Deadhorse and near Prudhoe Bay, in a remote Arctic industrial area.
Because access is restricted, most travelers arrive by company-organized flights or with prior permission, then continue by road via the Dalton Highway, company vehicles or pre-arranged transfers to Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay and surrounding work sites.
Passenger facilities are limited, reflecting the airport's role as an industrial aviation base rather than a public gateway. Travelers should confirm access, check-in and onward transport arrangements with the operating company or charter provider before flying.
