About Tununak Airport
Tununak Airport (TNK) is a state-owned public-use airport serving Tununak, a Yup'ik community on the northeast coast of Nelson Island in the Bethel Census Area of western Alaska. The airport lies about one nautical mile southwest of the village and provides essential scheduled and charter air links for passengers, mail, and freight in a roadless region.
The airport has a single gravel runway, 16/34, measuring 3,300 by 75 feet. The facility is unattended and a new airport complex opened in 2016 to replace an older coastal runway, although permafrost settlement later caused runway concerns and temporary service disruptions. Because conditions can change, travelers should confirm runway status and weather with their carrier before flying.
Since Tununak is off the Alaska road system, the airport is a critical connection to regional hubs such as Bethel and Anchorage. Ground transport around the village is limited to local vehicles, four-wheelers, and prearranged transfers, while many onward journeys require small-aircraft connections to nearby communities.
Passengers should expect a simple remote-airport experience with limited indoor amenities and no full-service terminal. Planning flights through the operating airline and arranging village transportation in advance is recommended.

Terminal Overview

Terminals
