About Base Aeronaval de Tulum
Base Aeronaval de Tulum is a military airfield operated by the Mexican Navy and its Naval Aviation service. It is located near Tulum in the state of Quintana Roo, on Mexico's Caribbean coast, and serves as a naval air station rather than a public commercial airport.
On 22 February 1987, the state government of Quintana Roo transferred the former Tulum aerodrome to the Secretariat of the Navy, which has since used the site exclusively for naval aviation operations. The facility has a single runway of approximately 1,820 metres and remains closed to civil aviation.
The airfield sits a short drive from Tulum town and the surrounding beach and resort areas, so ground transportation to hotels, the Tulum archaeological zone and other Riviera Maya destinations is generally straightforward along local roads and Highway 307.
