About Tullahoma Regional Airport William Northern Field
Tullahoma Regional Airport William Northern Field is a public-use general aviation airport about two miles northwest of downtown Tullahoma, Tennessee. Owned by the City of Tullahoma, it serves private, business, flight training and recreational aviation in southern Middle Tennessee.
The airport was activated in October 1942 as William Northern Army Air Field, a World War II training base for bomber crews, fighter pilots and paratroopers. It was renamed in November 1942 to honor Second Lieutenant William Lee Northern Jr., the first Tennessean killed in World War II, and later became Tullahoma Regional Airport.
Today the field has four runways, including a 5,501-foot paved runway, and operates without a control tower. The onsite terminal and FBO provide fuel, hangars, aircraft services and passenger facilities, while the Beechcraft Heritage Museum and Tennessee Skydiving are located on the field.
The airport sits within easy driving distance of Arnold Air Force Base and roughly midway between Nashville and Chattanooga. Nashville International Airport is about 72 miles away, making THA a convenient local gateway for general aviation traffic in the region.
