Truckee Tahoe Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Truckee, North Lake Tahoe and the wider Sierra Nevada region. Located in Martis Valley about two miles southeast of downtown Truckee and roughly seven miles north of Lake Tahoe, it primarily handles private, charter, corporate and recreational aircraft rather than scheduled commercial flights.
The site's aviation history dates to 1933, when an airstrip was created for emergency landings on the trans-Sierra airmail route. The Truckee Tahoe Airport District was formed in 1958, and the current terminal building opened in 2012 with a pilot lounge, flight planning room and public meeting areas.
The airport sits at an elevation of about 5,900 feet among the Sierra Nevada and is reached quickly from central Truckee by car, taxi, rideshare or rental vehicle. Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the nearest commercial gateway, is around 30 minutes away for travelers using scheduled airlines.
