Tri-Cities Regional Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, including the cities of Kingsport, Johnson City and Bristol. It opened in 1937 as McKellar Field and has developed into the main air gateway for the wider Tri-Cities region, which also reaches into parts of Western North Carolina and Eastern Kentucky.
