About Travis Air Force Base
Travis Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located in Fairfield, Solano County, California. Opened in 1942 as Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base, it was renamed Travis Air Force Base in 1951 and is today one of the principal military airlift hubs on the West Coast, often described as the Gateway to the Pacific.
The base sits about three miles east of central Fairfield, just off Interstate 80 and roughly halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento. Its host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing, supports global airlift and aerial refueling missions, while the Travis passenger terminal handles Space-Available travel for military members and their families.
The airfield has two main runways and a single passenger terminal operated by the 60th Aerial Port Squadron. The terminal is typically open from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and provides seating, information displays, restrooms and a snack bar for travelers.
Road access is straightforward via Air Base Parkway and Interstate 80, with Fairfield, Vacaville and the Napa Valley nearby.
