About Toksook Bay Airport

Toksook Bay Airport is the only public-use airport serving Toksook Bay, a Yup'ik community on Nelson Island in western Alaska's Bethel Census Area. The state-owned facility is operated by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities and is open to the public without a control tower.

The airport sits about one mile northeast of the village centre and is built around a single gravel runway, 16/34, measuring roughly 3,200 by 75 feet. It supports scheduled regional flights and general aviation traffic, linking Toksook Bay with Bethel, the regional hub about 115 miles away, and other western Alaska communities.

Because Toksook Bay is not connected by road to other communities, air service is the primary year-round connection for passengers, mail and freight. The airport has no full commercial terminal; travellers use a basic heated waiting area and arrange local ground transport for the short trip between the airstrip and the village.

Despite its small scale, the facility provides essential infrastructure for residents and visitors, including runway lighting, weather reporting and an unattended apron. Travel times and services depend on weather and seasonal conditions, which are common considerations for travel in this part of Alaska.
