About Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa
Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa is Albania's only international airport and the main gateway to the capital, Tirana, and the country's coastal and resort areas. The airport was built between 1955 and 1957 and was named in honour of Mother Teresa in 2001.
A major modernisation programme delivered a new passenger terminal that opened in 2007, followed by further expansions and the addition of a separate private terminal for VIP travellers. Today, a single passenger terminal handles all scheduled arrivals and departures, with facilities designed to support airline operations, passenger services and ground transport.
The airport is located in Rinas, roughly 17 km northwest of central Tirana. It is connected to the city by the SH2 highway, as well as by taxi, an airport express bus, private transfers and car rental services, making onward travel to Tirana, Durrës and other destinations straightforward.
