About Tinson Pen Aerodrome
Tinson Pen Aerodrome is Kingston's main domestic airfield and the largest of Jamaica's domestic aerodromes. It is operated by the Airports Authority of Jamaica, which took over responsibility for the island's domestic aerodromes in 1990, and it serves regional flights, private charters, flight training, air ambulance services and courier operations.
Located along Marcus Garvey Drive west of central Kingston, the aerodrome sits close to the city's port and industrial area. Its single compact terminal and one asphalt runway support domestic movements only, so the airport has no international customs or immigration facilities and operates under daylight visual flight rules.
The aerodrome is roughly 5 km from downtown Kingston, with taxi and JUTC bus connections available on or near Marcus Garvey Drive. Typical road journeys into the city centre take around 10 to 15 minutes, though Kingston traffic can extend this at peak times.
Although compact, Tinson Pen provides practical convenience for business and regional travelers because of its proximity to the financial districts of Kingston and New Kingston. Plans have been announced to relocate its general aviation operations to Norman Manley International Airport as part of a broader redevelopment of the site.
