Tibú Airport (TIB)

Tibú Airport is the regional airport serving the town of Tibú, a municipality in the Norte de Santander department of Colombia, within the Catatumbo region near the Venezuelan border. The airport sits on the southern edge of the town and provides an important air link for a part of the country where road travel can be long and difficult.

After around a decade without scheduled commercial service, the airport reopened to commercial flights in June 2025 following modernization work on the runway, taxiways, drainage, signalling and perimeter security. Regional carrier Satena began operating a Cúcuta–Tibú connection three times a week using 19-seat Beechcraft 1900 aircraft, reconnecting Tibú with the departmental capital.

The airport has a single compact passenger terminal and an asphalt runway of approximately 1,500 metres, suited to small and medium regional aircraft. Facilities are basic, with essential passenger services and limited commercial amenities, reflecting its role as a small regional gateway.

By road, Tibú lies roughly 114 kilometres north of Cúcuta, with typical driving times of around two hours depending on conditions. Travelers can reach the town centre in a few minutes from the airport and continue by taxi, private transfer, rental car or arranged transport to nearby communities across the Catatumbo region.
