About Þingeyri Airport
Þingeyri Airport is a small regional airfield serving the village of Þingeyri and the Dýrafjörður area in the Westfjords of Iceland. It provides an important air link for a remote community and has also functioned as a summer alternate airport for Ísafjörður under Isavia's service agreement.
Located about 3 km west of Þingeyri, the airport is reached by road via Svalvogavegur. It has a single runway, 14/32, approximately 1,084 metres long, and a compact terminal used mainly for regional and general aviation flights.
The airfield has served the area since the late 1950s, when a small runway was taken into use for medical transport. It was later upgraded, closed temporarily in 2013 after winter damage to the runway, and subsequently reopened.
Passenger facilities are limited, and there is no scheduled public bus service to the airport. Travellers typically use pre-booked taxis, private transfers or rental cars, and weather conditions in the Westfjords can affect flight schedules.
