About Stykkishólmur Airport
Stykkishólmur Airport is a small airfield serving the town of Stykkishólmur on the northern side of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula. It functions mainly as a general aviation aerodrome, and scheduled passenger flights to Reykjavík ended in 1993 after improved roads reduced demand for air travel.
The airfield has been used in its current form since a runway opened in November 1973, replacing smaller airstrips that had served the area for medical transport from the 1950s. The runway was extended and equipped with lighting in 1978, and the terminal building was completed in 1985. Today the airport operates a single runway, 07/25, about 1,120 metres long.
The airport is located only about 0.6 km from the centre of Stykkishólmur and roughly 170–175 km by road from Reykjavík. Visitors can continue by car, taxi, private transfer or bus, and the town's harbour provides the Baldur ferry link to the Westfjords.
Facilities are small-scale, suited to private and charter flying rather than large commercial operations. With limited passenger services and direct road access to the town, the airport remains a practical local airfield for western Iceland.
