About Telupid Airport
Telupid Airport is a former small airfield serving Telupid, a town in the interior of Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. It operated as a civil domestic airfield for light aircraft and ceased operations in 1983.
The airfield stood beside the Telupid–Ranau road, close to the town centre, with a single grass runway used for daylight operations only. Today little remains of the former facilities, although the compacted and level former runway area can still be identified.
Telupid lies on Sabah's East–West route, about 130 km from Sandakan and roughly 200 km from Kota Kinabalu. With no scheduled air service at TEL, travelers now reach the town by road rather than by air.
The former airfield is part of Telupid's local history and reflects the area's development during the road-building era. Visitors passing through Telupid can continue by road to nearby towns, the Kinabatangan area and other destinations across Sabah.
