About Tehachapi Municipal Airport
Tehachapi Municipal Airport is a public general aviation airport serving the city of Tehachapi and the surrounding Kern County mountain region. Opened in 1940 and owned by the City of Tehachapi, it supports private, business, and recreational flying in the Tehachapi Mountains.
The airport sits less than a mile northeast of downtown Tehachapi at an elevation of about 4,001 feet. It has a single asphalt runway, 11/29, measuring roughly 4,040 feet, along with hangars, tiedowns, and a small terminal and administration building.
Because it is a general aviation facility, the airport has no scheduled airline service or commercial passenger terminals. Pilots and passengers use private aircraft, charters, and ground transportation to continue to Tehachapi and nearby communities such as Mojave and Bakersfield.
Its location near the city center makes the airport a convenient entry point for visitors exploring the Pacific Crest Trail, the Tehachapi Mountains, and the wider high desert region of California.
