About Tatalina LRRS Airport

Tatalina LRRS Airport is a U.S. Air Force airstrip serving the Tatalina Long Range Radar Station in interior Alaska. Located about 7 miles (11 km) south of the village of Takotna in the Yukon–Koyukuk Census Area, it supports military radar operations rather than commercial passenger service.

The airfield was activated in December 1951 and remains a controlled military facility with a single gravel runway, 17/35, measuring 3,820 by 150 feet. It has no passenger terminal, control tower, or public FBO, and landing permission is required for all civil aircraft.

Because the site is off the road system, access is normally by air, with McGrath Airport about 11 nautical miles to the east serving as the nearest airport with additional services and scheduled connections.

Facilities are limited to those needed for station operations, and public passenger amenities, fuel, and ground transportation are not available at the airfield. Travelers with business at the station should coordinate arrival and departure in advance.
