About Tanacross Airport
Tanacross Airport is a small public-use airport serving Tanacross and the surrounding eastern Interior Alaska region. The airfield opened in 1947 and is owned by the Bureau of Land Management.
Located about one nautical mile (2 km) south of Tanacross village in the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, the airport supports general aviation, air operations and seasonal fire support. It does not offer scheduled commercial passenger service.
The airfield has two asphalt runways, numbered 6/24 and 12/30, along with helipads. There is no control tower, and the airport is generally unattended, with runway maintenance limited in winter.
Tanacross sits near the Alaska Highway, and the nearby community of Tok, about 10 miles to the east, is a common stop for travelers. Ground access is by private vehicle or pre-arranged transfer, with the nearest larger city, Fairbanks, further to the northwest.
