About Tampa International Airport
Tampa International Airport is the main international gateway for Tampa and the wider Tampa Bay region on Florida's Gulf Coast. Opened in April 1971, it introduced a pioneering landside-and-airside design with automated people movers that became a model for airports around the world.
Located about six miles west of downtown Tampa, the airport serves domestic and international destinations and is convenient for business travelers and visitors heading to Gulf Coast beaches, St. Petersburg, Clearwater and central Florida attractions.
The airport's central Main Terminal is linked by people movers to four airsides, A, C, E and F, with a fifth airside under construction. Check-in, baggage claim and ground transportation are concentrated in the Main Terminal, helping keep walking distances short.
TPA is connected to Tampa by Interstate 275, taxis, ride-hailing services, public buses, shuttles, private transfers and rental cars. The SkyConnect people mover also links the Main Terminal to the Economy Parking Garage and Rental Car Center, making onward travel straightforward.
