About Talkeetna Airport
Talkeetna Airport is a state-owned public-use airport located about one nautical mile (1.9 km) east of the central business district of Talkeetna, in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough of Alaska. Activated in March 1949, it serves the Upper Susitna Valley and is best known as a base for air taxi, flightseeing, and general aviation activity.
The airport operates a single 3,500-by-75-foot (1,067 by 23 m) asphalt runway, designated 01/19, along with a compact terminal and aircraft apron. Rather than scheduled airline service, most passenger activity comes from air taxis and scenic flights over Denali and the Alaska Range.
Talkeetna is about 115 miles north of Anchorage along the Parks Highway, and the town is also served by the Alaska Railroad. From the airport, the town center is only a short drive away, with local shuttles, taxis, and private transfers available for onward travel.
As a small but busy aviation hub, the airport provides practical facilities for visitors heading to Denali-area lodges, flightseeing departures, and recreation across the surrounding region.
