About Takume Airport
Takume Airport is a small domestic aerodrome serving Takume Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia. It is the main arrival point for the village of Ohomo, connecting this remote atoll community to the rest of the territory through scheduled Air Tahiti services.
Located about 790 km northeast of Tahiti, the airport lies beside Ohomo village. It has a single paved runway and one small passenger building, with facilities kept deliberately simple to suit the low volume of island traffic.
The runway was originally built in 1995 and was renovated between 2021 and 2022, when it was extended to about 948 metres and widened to around 30 metres so that ATR42 aircraft could operate safely. Following the upgrade, Air Tahiti began serving Takume on a monthly basis, typically as part of a Papeete–Makemo–Takume–Raroia–Papeete rotation.
On arrival, travelers reach guesthouses and homes in Ohomo on foot or by local transport, while lagoon access supports boat travel around the atoll. The airport is best understood as a quiet island gateway where practical arrangements are made in advance.
