About Sywell Aerodrome
Sywell Aerodrome is a general aviation airfield serving Northampton and the wider Northamptonshire region. Opened in 1928, it played an important role during the Second World War as RAF Sywell, a flying training base and a centre for repairing Wellington bombers.
Located about 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Northampton, the aerodrome lies between Northampton and Wellingborough with road access via the A43, M1 and A14. It is used mainly for private, business and club flying rather than scheduled airline services.
The site is centred on the restored 1930s Art Deco clubhouse, now The Aviator Hotel, alongside the Pilots' Mess café, a VIP lounge, conference facilities, hangarage and flying schools. Runways include one concrete runway and several grass runways.
The nearest railway stations are Northampton and Wellingborough, with taxis and pre-booked transfers providing onward travel to the city centre and the surrounding area.
