About Sugimanuru Airport
Sugimanuru Airport is the main airport serving Muna Island and the town of Raha in West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Built during the Japanese occupation around 1942–1945 as a military airfield, it was later developed into a civil airport for the region.
The runway was rehabilitated in 1982 and civil flights began in 1984. After periods of limited activity, the airport was reactivated and its runway extended to 1,600 x 30 metres, allowing larger regional aircraft to operate. Today it has a single passenger terminal of about 1,800 square metres with an annual capacity of around 42,432 passengers, and in January 2026 commercial flights resumed on the Makassar–West Muna route.
The airport is located in Kusambi, approximately 25 km from the centre of Raha, and is connected to the town by road. Travelers can continue to Raha, nearby coastal areas, and other parts of Muna Island by private transfer, taxi, or rental car.
As a compact domestic airport, Sugimanuru serves business, government, and leisure travelers, and functions as a practical gateway for visitors arriving in West Muna and the surrounding Southeast Sulawesi region.
