About San Rafael Airport
San Rafael Airport (AFA) is the main airport serving San Rafael and the southern Mendoza region of Argentina. The current passenger terminal opened in 1997, and the airport is operated by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000.
Located about 8 km northwest of central San Rafael, the airport handles domestic flights, mainly the connection to Buenos Aires operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas. It acts as a gateway to the region’s wineries, Atuel Canyon, Valle Grande and outdoor tourism areas.
The airport has a single passenger terminal and a single asphalt runway. Recent works have renewed the runway, taxiways and apron, and the terminal is being expanded to improve capacity and passenger comfort.
Ground access relies mainly on taxis, remises, private transfers and rental cars, with the city centre reached in about 10–15 minutes. Despite its small size, the airport provides essential services for visitors arriving in southern Mendoza.
