Stuart Island Airpark (SSW)

Stuart Island Airpark is a small private-use grass airstrip on Stuart Island, one of the northern islands in Washington State's San Juan Islands. The airfield has been in operation since 1959 and primarily serves recreational pilots and the island's limited residential community. The airpark has a single turf runway, 9/27, measuring approximately 2,000 by 55 feet, with an elevation of about 10 feet above sea level. It is an unattended facility with no control tower, no fuel service, and no passenger terminal; landing requires prior permission from the airport owner. Stuart Island has no public ferry service, so access is generally by private boat or aircraft. The nearest larger islands, Orcas Island and San Juan Island, lie roughly 11 nautical miles away, with Friday Harbor Airport and Orcas Island Airport providing the closest public aviation services. Because the airpark offers no commercial passenger amenities, travelers should plan for private boat connections to Friday Harbor or other San Juan Island communities for onward travel, lodging, and services.
