Strother Field Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Winfield, Arkansas City and the surrounding Cowley County area of south-central Kansas. It opened in January 1943 as Strother Army Air Field, a World War II training base, and later evolved into a jointly owned municipal airport and industrial park.
Located about five miles southwest of Winfield's central business district and north of Arkansas City, the airport sits between the two cities and is owned by both. It has two asphalt runways, 17/35 and 13/31, with the longer 5,506-foot runway supporting larger general aviation aircraft, along with a fixed-base operator, self-serve fueling and hangar space.
The airport operates as a general aviation facility without commercial airline service, serving private pilots, business aviation, flight training and industrial tenants. Onward travel is by road, with Winfield and Arkansas City both a short drive away and Wichita roughly 45 miles to the northwest.
