About St. Louis Lambert International Airport
St. Louis Lambert International Airport is the main commercial airport serving St. Louis and the surrounding bi-state region of eastern Missouri and southwestern Illinois. Founded as Lambert-St. Louis Flying Field in the 1920s, it became one of the first municipally owned airports in the United States, and its distinctive domed main terminal was completed in 1956.
The airport operates through two passenger terminals. Terminal 1, with concourses A, B, C and D, handles most domestic and international carriers, while Terminal 2 primarily serves Southwest Airlines and processes international arrivals. Both terminals are linked by a free 24-hour shuttle and by MetroLink Red Line stations.
Located about 14 miles (23 km) northwest of downtown St. Louis, the airport is connected to the city by the MetroLink Red Line, taxis, ride-share services, rental cars and road links along Interstate 70. The rail journey to central St. Louis typically takes around 30 to 35 minutes.
