Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Spartanburg and South Carolina's Upstate region. Opened in 1927 as the state's first commercial airport, it hosted Charles Lindbergh at its grand opening and later supported airmail service and wartime training before scheduled airline flights moved to Greenville-Spartanburg in 1962.
Located about three miles southwest of downtown Spartanburg, the airport now focuses on private, corporate and flight-training aviation. Its single runway, 5/23, measures 5,852 feet and features an instrument landing system, while the historic Art Deco terminal building, renovated and expanded in 2011, houses a city-operated fixed-base operator.
