About Southwest Michigan Regional Airport

Southwest Michigan Regional Airport is the main general aviation gateway for Benton Harbor, St. Joseph and the surrounding Lake Michigan shoreline area. It is the largest airport in Berrien County and the only all-weather airport serving Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties, supporting business, corporate, charter and private aviation traffic.

Located about 2 miles northeast of central Benton Harbor, the airport began as a private field built by the Ross Carrier Company in 1934 and opened as Ross Field in 1940. It was later known as Twin Cities Airport Ross Field before receiving its current name in 1993.

The airport has two runways, including a 6,006-foot primary runway with an instrument landing system, and a single general aviation terminal operated with Skyway Aviation as the fixed-base operator. There is currently no scheduled commercial airline service, so most travel through BEH is by general aviation and corporate aircraft.

Road access places the airport within a short drive of Benton Harbor, St. Joseph and nearby communities, with rental cars, taxis, private transfers and advance-arranged ground transportation available for onward travel throughout southwest Michigan.
