Southwest Florida International Airport is the main commercial airport serving Fort Myers and the broader Southwest Florida region, including Naples, Cape Coral and the Gulf Coast beach communities. Certified for operation in May 1983, the airport adopted its current name in 1993 to reflect its growing international role.
A modern terminal complex opened in 2005 and houses a single main terminal with concourses B, C and D, an international arrivals facility and a range of shops and dining options. A terminal expansion project is underway to add capacity for continued growth.
The airport is located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Fort Myers in Lee County, near I-75, and is connected to the region by road. Ground transportation includes on-site rental cars, taxis, ride-hailing services, hotel shuttles and LeeTran public buses, making onward travel to Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral and nearby coastal areas straightforward.
