About Smith Reynolds Airport

Smith Reynolds Airport is Winston-Salem's general aviation airport, serving private, corporate and charter flights for the city and the wider Piedmont Triad region. The airport opened in 1927 as Miller Municipal Field and was renamed in 1942 for aviator Zachary Smith Reynolds, the younger son of R.J. Reynolds. It is best known as the birthplace of Piedmont Airlines, which was founded at the airport in 1948.

Unlike larger commercial hubs, the airport focuses on general and business aviation rather than scheduled airline passenger service. Its operations are centred on a historic Art Deco terminal building dating to 1941, which houses the fixed-base operator Signature Flight Support and a range of passenger, crew and flight-planning facilities.

Located about three miles northeast of downtown Winston-Salem, the airport offers fast access to the city centre, Wake Forest University and major business and medical districts. High Point is roughly 18 miles to the southeast and Greensboro about 26 miles to the east, making the airport a convenient entry point for the Piedmont Triad.

Travellers can reach the city by taxi, ride-share services, rental car, private transfer or chauffeur, and the airport's compact layout keeps arrivals and onward travel straightforward. Modern terminal amenities and on-site FBO services support comfortable, efficient private and corporate travel.
