About Sleetmute Airport
Sleetmute Airport (SLQ/PASL) is a small public-use airport serving Sleetmute, a remote community on the east bank of the Kuskokwim River in Alaska's Bethel Census Area. Opened in November 1949 and owned by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, it functions as the community's year-round aviation link in an area without road connections to other cities.
The airport operates a single gravel runway, 15/33, measuring about 3,100 by 60 feet, with medium-intensity runway edge lights and an AWOS weather reporting system. Scheduled, charter and air taxi flights connect Sleetmute with regional hubs such as Aniak, about 79 miles to the west, and other Kuskokwim River communities.
The airfield sits immediately beside the village, so arriving passengers can reach central Sleetmute on foot or by ATV or snowmachine in only a few minutes. There is no control tower or scheduled public bus service, and airport facilities remain basic, but the airstrip provides a dependable gateway for residents and visitors traveling through this part of western Alaska.
