About Sioux Gateway Airport / Brigadier General Bud Day Field
Sioux Gateway Airport is the main commercial airport serving Sioux City and the tri-state Siouxland region of northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota. It functions as both a public airport and a base for the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing.
Located about 7 miles (11 km) south of downtown Sioux City, just west of Sergeant Bluff and close to Interstate 29, the airport offers convenient road access for travelers from across the region. Its single passenger terminal keeps check-in, security screening, baggage claim and ground transportation within a compact, easy-to-navigate facility.
The airport opened in 1940 and later served as Sioux City Army Air Base during World War II before becoming the region's public airport. Today, scheduled passenger service is operated by SkyWest Airlines as United Express, with flights to Denver and Chicago O'Hare.
