Sioux Falls Regional Airport, also known as Joe Foss Field, is the largest airport in South Dakota and the main gateway to Sioux Falls and the surrounding region. It serves southeastern South Dakota, southwestern Minnesota, and northwestern Iowa with scheduled passenger service, overnight cargo, general aviation, and a U.S. Customs Port of Entry.
The airport was established in 1937 as a civil airport and opened as Sioux Falls Municipal Airport in 1939. A new terminal opened at its current location in 1969 and was later named Joe Foss Field in honor of the former WWII fighter ace, South Dakota governor, and founder of the South Dakota Air National Guard.
Located about 5 km (3 miles) northwest of downtown Sioux Falls, the airport uses a single modern terminal with ticketing, security, and gates under one roof.
