About Siau/Sitaro Airport
Siau/Sitaro Airport, also known as Taman Bung Karno Airport, is a domestic airport serving Siau Island and the Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands Regency in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is located in Balirangeng village in Siau Timur Selatan and began commercial service in 2024, giving this remote island group a direct air connection to the provincial capital, Manado.
The airport mainly handles pioneer and regional flights on small aircraft. Its compact terminal and runway are suited to domestic operations, and the airport plays an important role for residents, government travel, and visitors heading to the volcanic landscapes and coastal communities of the Sitaro Islands.
From the airport, travelers can continue by local road transport toward Ondong Siau, the regency capital, and other parts of Siau Island. Journey times vary depending on road and weather conditions, and private transfers, shared vehicles, and local bus services may be used where available.
Passenger facilities are modest, with a single terminal providing basic services for arrivals and departures. The airport functions as a small regional gateway, making Siau and the surrounding islands more accessible than in the past.
