About Shirak International Airport

Shirak International Airport is the main airport serving Gyumri, Armenia's second-largest city, and the wider Shirak Province in the country's northwest. It has been operating since 1961 and is the second busiest airport in Armenia after Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan.

The airport's passenger terminal was built in 1982 and serves both domestic and international flights. A modern arrivals hall opened in 2021, adding passport control, visa processing and a new baggage belt, and increasing the airport's annual passenger capacity to around 700,000. The runway, 3,220 metres long and 45 metres wide, was resurfaced and upgraded to international standards during the same modernization programme.

Located approximately 5 km from central Gyumri and about 120 km from Yerevan, the airport is quick to reach from the city. Travellers can continue their journey by taxi, private transfer or rental car; public transport options are limited, and onward travel to Yerevan and other parts of Armenia is usually made by road.

With a compact single-terminal layout, basic passenger facilities and easy access to Gyumri, the airport provides a convenient gateway for visitors exploring northern Armenia and for travellers connecting onward within the country.
