About Shahbaz Air Base
Shahbaz Air Base serves Jacobabad in northern Sindh, close to the border with Balochistan. Established in 1942 as a wartime airfield for the Royal Air Force, it later became a Pakistan Air Force base and is now operated jointly by the Pakistan Air Force and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.
Located about 2 km east of central Jacobabad, the airfield functions as both an active military installation and a limited civil-use airport under IATA code JAG. It supports regional air travel for the city and surrounding districts, with onward connections toward Sukkur, Larkana and other towns in northern Sindh.
The base was expanded and modernized around 2010 and continues to serve as a strategically important forward operating base. Its runways accommodate military and civil aircraft operations within the shared airport area.
Road transport links the airport with Jacobabad town and nearby areas, and the short journey into the city centre can be made by taxi, private transfer or rental car. Civil passenger facilities are limited at this joint civil and military airfield, so travellers should plan ahead.
