About Selfridge Air National Guard Base
Selfridge Air National Guard Base is a U.S. Air National Guard installation in Harrison Township, Michigan, on the western shore of Lake St. Clair. It sits about 20 miles northeast of downtown Detroit and is one of the oldest continuously operated military airfields in the United States, with the Army commissioning Selfridge Field on July 1, 1917.
The base is named for 1st Lieutenant Thomas E. Selfridge, the first U.S. military officer killed in an aircraft accident, and is home to the 127th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard. It operates primarily as a military airfield with a roughly 9,000-foot runway capable of handling fighter and transport aircraft.
Selfridge ANGB is located in Macomb County, near Mount Clemens and Harrison Township, with road access to the wider Metro Detroit region. Because it is an active military installation, it does not offer scheduled commercial passenger flights; civilian air travel in the area is served primarily by Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
