About Scottsdale Airport
Scottsdale Airport is the city's primary general aviation reliever airport and one of the busiest single-runway airports in the United States. It serves private aircraft, business jets, charter operators and the JSX public charter service, connecting North Scottsdale and the Phoenix metro area to destinations across the West and beyond.
The airfield dates to June 22, 1942, when it opened as Thunderbird Field II, a World War II pilot training base. The City of Scottsdale acquired the property in 1966 and developed it into the municipal airport in use today.
Located about 9 miles north of downtown Scottsdale and roughly 15 miles from downtown Phoenix, the airport has a single asphalt runway, 03/21, measuring 8,249 feet. Three fixed-base operators—Jet Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and Signature Flight Support—provide terminals, hangars and services, while a U.S. Customs facility supports international arrivals.
The airport is minutes from North Scottsdale resorts, championship golf courses, shopping and dining, and connects easily to the wider Valley by road. Ground transportation includes taxis, rideshares, rental cars, private transfers and chauffeur services.
Terminal Overview
Terminals
Scottsdale Airport does not operate conventional airline passenger terminals. Private and charter passengers are served through three fixed-base operators—Jet Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and Signature Flight Support—each with its own terminal and ramp facilities. JSX public charter flights also use a dedicated private terminal on the airfield.
