Schenectady County Airport is a county-owned public-use general aviation airport serving Schenectady and New York's Capital Region. Founded in 1927, the airport supports private and corporate aviation, flight training, and the 109th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard, which operates from Stratton Air National Guard Base on the field.
Located about three nautical miles north of downtown Schenectady, the airport is home to Richmor Aviation, the airport's fixed-base operator, as well as an Armed Forces Reserve Center, the Schenectady County Airport Business Park, a Schenectady County Community College aviation program and the Empire State Aerosciences Museum. The facility averages around 163 flight operations per day.
The airport has two runways, including a 7,001-foot primary runway, and serves general aviation traffic rather than scheduled commercial flights. Ground access to Schenectady, Scotia, Glenville and nearby communities is straightforward by car, and Albany is roughly 15 miles to the east.
