About Sauðárkrókur Airport
Sauðárkrókur Airport is a small regional airport serving Sauðárkrókur, the largest town in the Skagafjörður municipality of northern Iceland. The airfield opened in 1949 and has long supported domestic air connections to Reykjavík, general aviation, charter traffic and medical flights for the surrounding area.
The airport, also known as Alexandersflugvöllur, is operated by Isavia and lies roughly 3 km southeast of the town centre. Its single asphalt runway is about 1,887 metres long, allowing it to handle small passenger aircraft and general aviation throughout the year.
Road access is direct and simple, with the short drive into Sauðárkrókur taking only a few minutes by car, taxi or rental vehicle. From the town, travelers can continue to other parts of Skagafjörður and northern Iceland.
Although scheduled services to Reykjavík are not currently operated, the airport remains an important local transport link and supports private flights, charters and emergency medical aviation in the region.
