Sara Airport (SSR)

Sara Airport is a small public airstrip on the northern part of Pentecost Island, in Vanuatu's Penama Province. It sits on a hilltop next to the village of Arongbwaratu and serves as an important domestic air link for communities in the north of the island.

The airport has a short grass runway, and its elevated position means it is less affected by the waterlogging that has affected other airstrips on Pentecost, although conditions can be difficult in strong winds. Because the road and sea journey from northern Pentecost to the island's main airport at Lonorore can be long and expensive, Sara remains a valuable transport connection for local residents.

Located in a rural setting, Sara Airport offers simple, small-scale passenger handling rather than a conventional terminal. Domestic flights, mainly from Port Vila, connect the area with the rest of Vanuatu.

Travelers should plan ahead, as facilities are basic and onward travel to villages and coastal areas is generally arranged through local transport, pre-booked transfers or guides.
