About Santa Monica Municipal Airport
Santa Monica Municipal Airport is a general aviation and business aviation airport serving Santa Monica and the Westside of Los Angeles. Opened in 1923, it is one of the oldest continuously operating airports in Los Angeles County and was historically home to the Douglas Aircraft Company.
The airport occupies a compact site east of downtown Santa Monica and operates a single 3,500-foot runway. Passenger handling is provided through fixed-base operator facilities and a dedicated private terminal used by the public charter carrier JSX, which offers scheduled flights to destinations such as Las Vegas and Oakland.
Located about 3 miles (5 km) from central Santa Monica, the airport sits close to beach areas, business districts and nearby communities including Venice, Beverly Hills and Malibu. Ground transportation is available by taxi, ride-hailing, rental car, private transfer and chauffeur service.
The site also includes an executive terminal with lounges, the Museum of Flying, restaurants and the Barker Hangar event venue. The City of Santa Monica has a closure plan in place that calls for airport operations to wind down by the end of 2028.
